It appears that IOC President Jacques Rogge is allowing those clubs involved in Champions League qualifiers to prevent their players called up to their respective Olympic squads from partaking in Beijing's Football event.

According to various reports, Barcelona have been adamant over their wish to not allow Lionel Messi to play the Olympic Games so that they can use him in the Champions League third qualifying round.

Barcelona believe they can't be forced to let the player go as the olympic tournament is not included in FIFA's official calendar.

And Rogge has now apparently agreed with Barça on this case, saying: "A letter was sent to every club affected by the ceding of players to the Olympic Games in which we inform they have to allow their under-23 players to go.Otherwise, those footballers won't be allowed to play for their teams while the olympic tournament of Beijing is taking place.

"Nevertheless, we will make an exception for the clubs that have to play the Champions League qualifying rounds and are against letting players leave, as to prevent them from getting injured."

A final decision on this case will be announced by Sunday as Messi will reportedly join the rest of the Argentina squad on Monday.
