Hull City boss Phil Brown wants to sign Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin - after running into problems finding a new forward.

Brown would like to take the powerful Ukrainian on loan with a view to a permanent move following Voronin's return to Anfield from a similar spell in Germany.

Voronin spent last season at Hertha Berlin after failing to make a big impact in his first season at Anfield, although he did manage six goals in his 13 League appearances.

The Ukrainian star, who is 30 tomorrow, had previously played in Germany for Mainz, Cologne and Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Liverpool Voronin has been told by Reds boss Rafa Benitez that he will get a chance in some games next season, but he wants regular first-team action and could be interested in a move to the Tigers. Benitez could be persuaded to do business if Hull agree to pay a loan fee - and Brown is getting so desperate to sign a striker that he may agree to that arrangement.

Brown has tried and failed in his bids to sign Michael Owen and Marc-Antoine Fortune, while his move for Bobby Zamora has hit snags over the Fulham striker's personal terms.

Zamora knows what former team-mate Jimmy Bullard picked up for going to Hull and is looking for comparable cash.

Fulham have signed Norway midfielder Bjorn Helge Riise - the younger brother of former Liverpool star John Arne Riise - for £2million from Lillestrom. He has won 16 caps for Norway and has scored one goal.
