A number of Liverpool players were involved yesterday for their respective international sides.
Fernando Torres and Albert Riera figured in Spain's 5 - 0 victory over Belgium. Torres played 66 minutes before being replaced by his Liverpool teammate.
Neither were on the goal sheet. David Silva (Liverpool target during the summer transfer fiasco) was on the score sheet twice.
Yossi Benayoun played 67 minutes in Israel's 1 - 0 home defeat to Latvia. Andriy Voronin started for Ukraine in their 5 - 0 victory over Andorra. The Liverpool "striker" picked up a yellow card for his troubles and was eventually substituted in the second half.
Javier Mascherano's Argentina lost 3 - 1 at home to Brazil. The Argentinian captain picked up a yellow card (as should be expected) and once again tried to score spectacular goals from outside the area...to no avail.
Liverpool teammate Lucas Leiva was on the subs bench for the Brazillians.
In some friendly action, Dirk Kuyt played for the Dutch in their 3 - 0 victory against Japan at home in Holland. He was substituted in the second half. Ryan Babel (drafted in as a late replacement) was an unused sub.
Finally, Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson played in England's 2 - 1 victory over Slovenia. Gerrard was substituted straight after half-time whilst Johnson played the entire game for Fabio Capello's men.
